Am I Magnesium Deficient?

When magnesium deficient we can experience a broad range of health issues, such as migraines, leg cramps, anxiety, heart irregularities, and more

 

The following questions can be helpful to a self diagnosis.

 
Q.  What is your gender?
A.  Males require more magnesium  than women

(Note:  The RDA for women age 19-30 is 310 mg, age 31+ is 320 mg. For men age 19-30 the RDA is 400 mg,  age 31+ is 420 mg.  The RDA increases through pregnancy.)

A.  Age also plays a role in our recommended daily allowances, more as we age

Q.  How often are you fatigued, lethargic or low on energy?
A.  Cellular energy requires magnesium, deficiency leads to low energy

A.  Caffeine can interfere with intestinal absorption of Mg

Q.  Do you drink more than 7 alcoholic beverages per week?
A.   Alcohol works as a diuretic to Mg (and the other electrolytes)

Q.  Do you eat foods with high sugar, fats or salt?
A.  Diets high in refined foods, processed foods or sugars have inherently low magnesium content. Also beverages containing phosphoric acid (pop or soda, diet pop), and aspartame will prevent absorption.
